Destination Requirements


Before you make your final decision on your wedding destination, it's important to be aware of the various requirements for each country that must be met in order to be legally married.  Some are considerably more complicated than others.  

Here is a list of requirements for some of the more popular Destination Wedding Destinations.



CUBA:
 All documents listed must be officially translated into Spanish, certified by a Notary Public and accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity in order to be legalized and certified by the Consulate General of Cuba (allow 15 – 21 business days):

·         Passports
·         Tourist cards
·         Divorce Decree and Birth Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificate of previous marital partner if deceased (if applicable)

Information sheet must be provided with the following:

·         Bride and Groom’s full names
·         Permanent addresses
·         Occupations
·         Level of education
·         Nationality and full names of parents for both the Bride and Groom

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:
    All documents listed must be officially translated into Spanish and certified by a Notary Public (allow 3-5 business days):

·         Photocopies of valid Passports (3 copies)
·         Original Birth Certificates (plus 3 copies)
·         Notarized Single Status Affidavits
·         Divorce Decree or Death Certificate if previously married (original and 2 copies).  Mandatory 10 month waiting period to re-marry for Bride if divorced or widowed.
·         Adoption Certificate, if applicable
·         Two witnesses, with passports ( 2 copies)

JAMAICA:
 Visitors can be married just 24-hours after arrival provided a prior application has been made for the marriage license.  French Canadians need a notarized and translated English copy of all documents accompanied with photocopy of original French documents.

·         Proof of Citizenship
·         Certified copy of both the Bride and Groom’s birth certificates which include the father’s name
·         Divorce Decree of Death Certificate or previous marital partner if deceased (if applicable)

MEXICO:
 All documents listed must be officially translated into Spanish and notarized:

·         Passports
·         Tourist cards given at airport on arrival
·         Birth Certificates
·         Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Four witnesses over the age of 18 with Passports, Tourist cards and Birth Certificates
·         Locally performed blood test and chest x-rays ($)
·         Bride and Groom must arrive in Mexico at least 4 working days prior to the wedding date.

PANAMA:
   All documents listed must be officially translated into Spanish and notarized by Notary Public and accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity in order to be legalized by the Consulate General of Panama and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Panama.

·         Valid Passports that clearly show the date of entry into Panama
·         Civil Status Certificates
·         Birth Certificates
·         Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Tourist cards given at airport on arrival in Panama
·         Medical examinations in Panama (can be done at any clinic) – General Health Certificate is sufficient
·         Two witnesses that are not part of either family (if witnesses are foreigners they must provide valid passports that contain entrance stamps)

BAHAMAS:
    Both parties must be in the Bahamas at the time of the application and must have stayed in the Bahamas for not less than one day prior to the date of the application.  The following documents are required:

·         Valid Passports
·         A declaration certifying Civil Status sworn before a Notary Public or other person authorized to administer oaths in the Bahamas
·         If one of the parties is under the age of 18, consent of parents is required in the form of a sworn and notarized affidavit
·         Divorce Decree of Death Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Evidence of the date of arrival in the Bahamas (i.e. the Immigration Card that was received on entry)

ARUBA:    
The registrar’s office should be contacted for specific rules regarding a destination or beach wedding in Aruba.  They will also provide information regarding marriage licenses & marriage certificates.  The following documents are to be faxed for review to the office of Civil Registry and then submitted by courier (ie FedEx) at least one month prior to desired wedding date:

·         An Apostille Certificates of Civil Status
·         Birth Certificates of certified copies with an Apostille stamp
·         Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Valid Passports with copies of picture pages
·         Two witnesses over the age of 19 with valid passports

HONDURAS:  
 All paperwork must be provided to the resort no less than 14 days prior to the wedding:

·         Valid passports
·         Certified copies of Birth Certificates
·         Certified copies of police records (2)
·         Medical reports (HIV test)
·         Notarized statements of Civil Status (3)
·         Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of previous marital partner (if applicable)
·         Minors under 21 years of age must have written parental consent

ST. MAARTEN:
Couples planning on getting married in St. Maarten must be at least 18 years of age.  Requests must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the scheduled ceremony to be conducted by the Registrar.  The following notarized original documents must be submitted to the Registrar with your request:

·         A full abridged birth certificate to prove the legality of the same.  These documents should be provided with an “Apostille” stamp.  In Canada, the “Apostille Stamp” can be obtained at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Consulate have to legalize said documents.
·         Unmarried persons must present a declaration of marital status not older than 3 months
·         Persons must be 18 years of age
·         Address of both parties required
·         Names of parents and maiden name of mother
·         Dates and Place of birth of parents
·         Professions of bride and groom and of parents
·         Six witnesses if the wedding is performed outside of the Marriage Hall.  Non-Dutch witnesses  must present a valid passport or a birth certificate with a picture ID
·         If widowed must present death certificate of deceased spouse
·         If divorced, a divorce certificate or a final judgment decree
·         For minors, permission of the parents is required
·         In the event persons are not of Dutch nationality a valid passport is required.

Original documents other than Dutch or English need to be translated into the Dutch language (ie, a French or Spanish document must be translated into Dutch, not English)

The cost for contracting foreign marriages is US$407 and includes civil ceremony, marriage book, stamps and certificate.  Marriages will be performed after all documents are found to be correct by the Civil Registrar.
